The NCRC Classic Half-Marathon & 10K Races are now in their 22nd year and considered to be two of the Triangle area’s premier distance races.
In 2019 over 500 runners registered for one of the two events. Omar Wiggan (1:25:17) and Erin Taylor (1:28:16) took top honors in the half-marathon, while Nils Menz (36:37) and Britt Johnson-Broache (46:24) were the top finishers in the 10K.
There is no 2021 Second Empire Grand Prix Series. Discount codes from the 2020 series may be used for registration.
There will not be a half marathon race because we cannot use Umstead State park. People who previously registered for the half marathon will receive a credit that can be used for one of our upcoming races.
We are still working on an in person 10k race. The race will be started in waves to keep the number of people in the starting area within North Carolina limits. The waves will be determined as follows:
The people that provided the fastest estimated times (the runners in contention for an overall place) will be in the first wave. Overall awards will be based on gun time. Age Group awards will be based on chip time.
The field will be divided into groups of 50 based on the date you registered (including everyone who registered a year ago for the 2020 race)
If you indicated in your registration that you want to run with a friend, we will accommodate that.
We are unable to use Umstead State Park for the course because they are strictly following state-wide limitations on gathering sizes. We are going to certify a new course on Black Creek Greenway and the new Hatcher Creek Greenway outside the park.
To stay in better compliance and reduce congestion on the greenway, runners will choose from one of several 20 minute windows in which to cross the starting line, please us know on the registration form if there is anyone you would like to start with.
