GYROS WYTHEVILLE GRAVEL RIDE - 43 MILES! - 2025-10-04 10:00 am
To: all members
Wed, Oct 1, 2025 @ 5:34 am
Reminder to sign up for our Wytheville Gravel Ride Saturday.

So far, we've got a nice group of 11 going to enjoy yet another gorgeous fall day with temperatures starting in the high 50's hitting the low 70's at finish. Mostly sunny skies and a mild wind of 2-5mph to boot. Fall is here, and the weather gods are again looking down on us!

We'll have John Fox, SAG MASTER, joining us for this ride so please bring a donation to help with his expenses. We'll need him as there are no rest stops on this route.

If you plan to join, please sign up or text me to let me know so I can get a headcount. Won't be long before cold weather is here and our destination rides on hold until spring.

See everyone at 10am Saturday.

RE: IMPORTANT GYROS CHARITIES UPDATE!
Hi Tony and Gs,

Thank you for the donation to NC Adapted Sports. The money will help NCAS fulfill our mission of getting those with physical disabilities into or back into sports.

On Saturday, Sept 27 (starting at 9;30am), there will be a cyclocross race at the YMCA Camp Kanata and it includes a category for adapted athletes. If you know of anyone with a physical disability who would like to get into cycling, please pass this on and/or have them go to our site listed below. The race not only shows the abilities of adapted athletes but there will also be an area where people can view and ride adapted cycles.

Thanks again,

Jim

Subject: IMPORTANT GYROS CHARITIES UPDATE!

G's!

I hope this message finds you all well!

I'm happy to announce that we have made a donation to both the KAY YOW CANCER FUND and UNC CHILDRENS' HOSPITAL in the amount of $2500 each.

This year we also have made a donation of $150 to the YOUTH CYCLING INITIATIVE and $100 to NORTH CAROLINA ADAPTED SPORTS.

You can learn more about these 2 great organizations at [https://youthcyclinginitiative.org](https://u66777.ct.sendgrid.net/ls/click?upn=u001.l-2BhkISCmnVZwshrpx0vb5PdL6fgeWCaLjFMeBxBARM5s3NF-2FBihabGMQXIY5ovPqL9za_9sSzsv7X7Ql-2F4Xdgag6w1uI2LtV8Il8p28R2TY3AMZYq6NcWVR-2FD4aOsyBnTj9ELd35fac-2F-2BxU-2BDdiBQ4-2FW4mzZl91DlJ5sLczN4tVb-2Fh2Owq9XOUhk-2BjCAfZhgAtQIfxIEjOkUgce6sef3K2SfeMWiaHhitnLFlBXcMaNNi-2BnMX2QvXK-2Blr8tnGtzM-2Feub7OWNpiJcU6cm-2BlDQllVc-2BJg-3D-3D) and [https://ncadaptedsports.org](https://u66777.ct.sendgrid.net/ls/click?upn=u001.CWm7-2F0KYS-2FP6DZTbr6risoeScD0lZ-2BInwBOq6SbAOZGxgkEcK98qt1gahBtz90fyM-m6_9sSzsv7X7Ql-2F4Xdgag6w1uI2LtV8Il8p28R2TY3AMZYq6NcWVR-2FD4aOsyBnTj9ELZ-2FMLTPhO4sOTxnn9Eb9NVjuuLACTkJ9AQTYOoL9nyQwjtul07-2BxF8dXUuhMahtG3ScNMQCpnw95mWvF1DYHta3fKCBsH2nOEWKQ3DNy7sfDQIyeGHNfY7HKasbWb4G2S7ZsIN0toAjVmozHwmJTNlg-3D-3D).

Since we no longer host our once flagship event, VELO4YELLOW, we have to rely heavily on membership dues to help us continue in our fight to end cancer. We have over 2000 members who follow us but only 15% have joined our cause by paying membership dues of only $20/year.

We hope that we can raise that numbersubstantiallyin January when we do our 2026 membership drive. $20 is such a low cost to help us continuemaking donations to these great charities. Plus, you'll get to enjoy our rides, particularly what we're known best for - our destination rides.

Thanks to everyone who has signed up as a member in 2025 and I hope to see you all on the road soon.

Cheers!

Tony

Ready for a change of scenery? Love the mountains as I do? Is your favorite time to ride in the fall? Join us Saturday! We have a great group going ready for some mountain ambience.

Weather is going to be glorious. Full sun, mid 60's to start rising to the mid 70's by the finish, 2-4 mph winds and low humidity. Who knows - maybe we'll even see some fall color beginning to show. Something is wrong if that doesn't get your blood pumping.

Things to remember-

- This IS an A ride. If you're the impatient type and/or you enjoy beating your chest by pushing the pace and putting the group under duress, this ride is NOT for you. The goats can stretch their legs on the climbs. We will always regroup. These rides will never be hammerfests. The point is to enjoy our friendships and to offer a change of pace. (No pun intended).

- We have 2 places for rest stops and we'll stop as often as we need.

- Make sure to go through your bikes to make sure everything is in good working order as we may not have a sag with us this time around.

- Post ride food and drink at the Twisted Ladder in Pilot Mtn.

AS ALWAYS, PLEASE CLICK ATTEND IF YOU PLAN TO JOIN US. I NEED TO GET A HEAD COUNT. YOU MAY CALL OR TEXT ME AS WELL AT 919-616-9704.

See you all on Saturday. Let me know of any questions.

GYROS BIB UPDATE
The bibs are now at the TREK NORTH RALEIGH store location.

Please pick up as soon as you can.

I'm giving everyone until Monday October 6th. If they are not picked up by then, I'm taking them home.

I've hung onto kits for months in the past and I don't want to hear from my manager about it.

October 6th gives everyone plenty of time.

For those who did not pick up their jersey yet, they will be included with your bib order.

Let me know of any questions.

GYROS BIBS!
I just recieved the bibs today.

I'll need time to sort them out so I'll post again when they are ready for pickup at the TREK NORTH RALEIGH location.

This time around, it will be necessary for everyone to get over to the store for their bibs.

Trying to coordinate bringing them to rides did not work out.
All we did was to go back and forth between the store and handing them out at rides.

I still have 3 jerseys at the store which haven't been picked up yet.

If you are one who hasn't pickup your jersey yet and have a bib coming, I would wait until I post they are ready.

Let me know of any questions.

This is my final update for the Fries Gravel Ride on Saturday!

Looks like we're going to have a gravel party Saturday. We are now up to 15 riders for this destination ride. If anyone else wants to join us, please let me know by either texting me at 919-616-9704 or by email at tonysantalucia1@gmail.com.

I found out a couple of days ago that Fries is hosting the Fiddlers' Convention on Saturday. This doesn't start until 6pm but there are other events as well including the Fries Town Market at 9am-1pm and the 10th Anniversary of the Thunder by the River Classic Car Event 2pm-8pm. Fries is going to be a busy place this weekend and it's a small town.

I don't know how this will affect parking. There is a park by the river with a large parking lot. Our plan is to meet there at 930am. You can't miss it if you look at the RWGPS file.

If the lot is full and you need to park somewhere else, please text me and let me know. We'll wait for you.

Also, remember that we'll have John Fox "Sagmaster" with us so if you need anything extra bring it with you to throw in his car.

After the ride plan on going to one of our favorite watering holes in Galax called CREEK BOTTOM BREWERY. It's 10 miles from Fries and has a great menu. For more information - https://www.cbbrews.com/lil-bottom/

Going to be an epic ride! Save the legs and see everyone on Saturday. Please let me know of any questions.

GYROS GRAVEL RIDE FROM FRIES, VA - REMINDER!
G's!

While we're in the middle of summer, I can already see the sun a tad lower in the sky and the shadows getting longer. September is not too far off and with these beautiful temperatures the last couple of days, I'm getting that fall itch and what better wayto scratch that itch than to head to the mountains for some gravel.

As of right now, we are up to 11 riders. 7 posted on our calendar and 4 others letting me know they will bejoining the ride.

I would like to know who is going to attend so I can plan accordingly. You can click attend on our calendar, or you may text me at 919-616-9704.

Just a few important points to remember:
- John Fox, alias Sag Master will be sagging this ride for us. This is crucial especially on a gravel ride such as this.
- This is a FUN ride - NOT a hammerfest. If you are one who easily getsimpatient waiting for fellow riders on climbs, this is NOT your ride. There are climbs up to 4 miles long. Riders should not be riding off the front and riding to the top. We regroup at opportune times on the climbs to make sure everyone is safe.
- Speaking of climbs, you WILL get a workout. The route is over 4200' in 41 miles with 35% gravel. The rewards of your effort will be the spectacular views.

I have ridden sections of the route and Dave, Dawn and Todd have ridden the whole route and we all give this an A+. The Grayson Highlands area is gorgeous and worththedrive.

If you want to experience something different other than riding circles around Umstead and you enjoydirt, join us.

The 2 photos attached to this email are from this route. They'll give you a sample of what you can expect.

Please let me know of any questions.

I'll do a final post just before the ride.
