The Selection of the Athlete of the Year award is based upon the following criteria: participation in the State Games, sportsmanship, attitude, effort, overall athletic participation and achievement, athlete's motivation/reason for being involved in sports, special attributes and circumstances(i.e. a disabled athletes, young/old athlete, comeback athlete, etc.) and why the athlete represents the spirit of amateur athletics and the State Games movement.
