In 2017 a crowd of over 430 runners and walkers turned out for this event in North Raleigh. Evan Darm (16:19) was the overall winner, while setting a new course record. Erin Taylor also set a new course standard for the women as she finished in 18:16.
Once again the race will start and finish at Trinity Academy of Raleigh at 10224 Baileywick Road in North Raleigh and will be run on an out-and-back course through the picturesque Wildwood Green golf community. Click here to download a course map.
The morning begins with the start of the 5K at 9 am followed by the mile at 10:00 am and the Kid’s Dash at 10:20 am.
Entrants in the 5K have a choice of entering as a competitive or recreational runner. Competitive entrants will receive an official time, be eligible for awards, and will receive Grand Prix points. Recreational entrants will not receive official times, but can either time themselves or see their times on the digital clock at the finish line.
The entry fees are $25 for the 5K if received on or before April 7th, $30 from April 7th to April 20th and $35 on race day. For the 1-mile run, the entry fees are $15 (on or before April 7th) and $20 after April 7th up to and including race day, and the fee for the Kid’s Dash is $5 with no late fees.
A short sleeve shirt is included with the entry fee in each of the 3 races (5K, One Mile and Kids Dash) on or before April 7th. After this date, we will do our best to provide all entries a shirt, but cannot guarantee it.
In the 5K, all competitive finishers will receive an official time. No official times will be taken for those signing up for the mile, but all finishers will be able to see their finishing times on a digital clock at the finish line.
In the 5K, awards will be presented to the top three males overall, to the top three females overall, to the top three master finishers of each sex, and to the top three finishers in each of the following age divisions: (both sexes) 12-under, 13-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74,75-79 and 80-over.
Pre-registered entrants can pick up their packets and late entrants can register on Friday, April 20th at Trinity Academy located at 10224 Baileywick Road in North Raleigh from 1-6 pm. The Second Empire 5K Classic is part of the Second Empire 2018 Grand Prix Series. Runners who participate in these races accumulate points and are awarded prizes at an awards banquet held at the Second Empire Restaurant at the conclusion of the Series.
