Hodges Hoedown Trail Race

New venue for 2017! It's the same trail system just accessed from a different location; we're moving the main venue to be at Oxford High School. And we added a 5k too!
The Hodges Hoedown showcases the complex trail system of this US Army Corp of Engineers property. You'll be power hiking in sections, holding onto saplings on a few descents and even crossing a river. This 'fun' is only enjoyed by those taking on the single-loop Half course or 10k (note- there is about a 1.5 mile segment on the Half/10k course that most will consider "a challenge" due to constant ups and downs and pockets of technical terrain). For those that opt for the 5k, the single track will keep you bobbing and weaving on an overall fast course absent of the real elevation gains. This is the Hodges Hoedown.
There will be a 300 person limit for 2017. 21k (half marathon) or 10k trail runor new 5k trail run (that avoids all the elevation) through mostly single track on Sunday June 25, 2017 at 8am (10k starts at 8:15, 5k at 8:30am).
Fees: are on-line only ($5 discount for under 20 years old (Junior), and NO day-of registrations will be accepted. 2017 Series will again be a no-frills set up; no shirts or other swag, and awards will be modest. We just want folks to come out and have fun on the trails.
Again this year, runners will earn points at each race for where they finish in their Age Division (age as of year end). The Half is part of the Long Series, and the 10k is part of the Short Series. Race Day awards: Top 3 Overall Male/Female in each Age Division (age as of year end) each distance: Junior (Under 20), Open (20-39), Master (40-54), Senior (55+).
Q: What is the race cancelation policy?
A: To ensure the safest event for the participants and all involved, we reserve the right to cancel, delay, or modify the format of the event at anytime. Believe us, it would have to be a very, very SERIOUS and DANGEROUS situation for the event to be canceled. But in the unfortunate situation this is required, there is a no-refund policy in place, as the majority of the costs have already been incurred to host the event and when associated, we do not want to take away any contributions to our charities. We expect you to be disappointed if the event is canceled, as we will be, but we also hope you understand why a no-refund policy is in place.
Q: What is the terrain like?
A: A good mix of single track and double wide trails. A healthy dose of classic New Englad-style rocks and roots. The Half/10k course traverses what we refer to as the "3rd Tier" on the ridge to the West of the Multi-Use Area (MUA) - approximately a 1.5 mile segment. This tier in particular has substantial elevaltion gains by regularly going up and down and up again. And then down and up again. There are stretches on this tier where the terrain is loose and challenging, but not the whole thing. The 5k course avoids this section of the course. Elevation over the rest of the course is minimal and its considered "fast". the "3rd Tier" will challenge you for sure.
Q: Are there any refunds or transfers?
A: Sorry, all registrations are final; there are no refunds or transfers to other participants. Within 10 days of the event, you can transfer your paid registration to another future event, for a small fee. Please see the Transfer page for full details. If you are unable to do the event please let us know ASAP so someone else can take your spot.
Q: Are strollers, joggers, pets, etc allowed on the course?
A: Due to insurance purposes and the safety of all participants, and the obvious reason of the terrain of the trails, we cannot allow strollers, joggers, pets, etc on any of the courses at all.
Q: How many participants will be allowed to register?
A: The race capacity is 300 people.
Q: Is the event chip-timed?
A: No. We use an on-line application called Webscorer to manually track when you cross the finish line, then the application automatically computes the overall finish times an Age Division placement.
Q: How many water stations are on the run course?
A: There will be four(4) aid stations on the Half course (2 on the 10k and 5k).
