Join us on March 17, 2018, for the second annual Food Shuttle Garden Gallop 5K to benefit the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle's Growing School Gardens program! We welcome everyone of every age! Run, walk, or even gallop to help people in our community!
The Inter-Faith Food Shuttle is an innovative hunger-relief organization serving seven counties in and around the Triangle. We believe hunger is fixable if the community works together to do two things: create sources of healthy food in every low-income neighborhood and grow opportunities for people to provide for themselves by learning job skills or growing their own food.
This year the Food Shuttle Garden Gallop 5K will benefit the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle’s Growing School Gardens program, which supports high need schools in Wake and Durham counties as they build school gardens and work to incorporate garden based learning into the school day!
Through the Food Shuttle's Growing School Gardens program, children at partner schools have access to gardening and basic food prep instruction during the school day and after school enrichment programs that get them excited about agriculture, eating healthy, and growing fresh produce. By integrating the urban agriculture programming into school communities, the Food Shuttle can impact hundreds of children at once (not to mention parents, teachers and administration) as they work with school staff to strengthen the self-sufficiency skills of students, increase their consumption of fresh produce, and help improve food literacy.
All proceeds from the race will be donated to the Growing School Gardens program to help provide new resources to schools in our community!
